What I Wish I Had Known As A Young Lawyer

The panel discussion will be predominantly geared toward young lawyers whether they are associates, in-house, or in government. The panelists will include lawyers who are several years into their profession as well as others who are at later stages in their careers. The discussion will focus on helpful advice and thoughts for young lawyers, which may in turn benefit more seasoned lawyers as well.

Legal interns will be exposed to a variety of the cases described above. Surrounded by a collegial environment, interns will develop drafting, research, communication, and analytical skills. Typical assignments include: preparing summaries of trial or hearing records; drafting appeal decisions based on the record and relevant law; researching and drafting memoranda of law; analyzing newly adopted or proposed laws and rules that affect matters adjudicated at OATH; writing proposed rules; participating in policy discussions; and preparing records to assist in defending challenges to OATH decisions in state or federal court.
