Spring 2014 Diversity Internship Program
~ through the Albany County Bar Association (ACBA) ~
CSM Application Deadline: November 15, 2013
Dear Albany Law School students:
The Albany County Bar Association created this semester-long Diversity Internship program during the Fall of 2000 to support students from under-represented groups within the legal profession (e.g., African-American, Asian or Pacific Islander, Puerto Rican, Mexican, other Hispanic, and American Indian are encouraged to apply). The goal of the program is to increase the representation of students of color in law firms in the Capital District, and to provide students with a private sector experience. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required to be considered. All applicants must be eligible to legally work in the United States, and international students must be CPT qualified (See the Registrar’s office to learn if you are CPT eligible) .
After careful review of all applications by the Program Committee, selected applicants will then be assigned with an area law firm based upon the strength of their application. This very competitive internship program is in its eleventh year. The internship provides a meaningful work experience, appropriately supervised by a partner or senior attorney, with assignments equivalent to a junior associate’s actual work situation. There is a commitment of 10-weeks (100 hours; minimum of ten hours per week) with an assigned employer. All interns MUST plan to attend all related program reception(s) and complete a program evaluation form upon the completion of the internship. (The time commitment involved in attending receptions is not considered part of the Intern’s 100 hours of work time.) Compensation: $1,800 stipend.
Note: selected interns have had the opportunity to work with the following Albany employers: Hiscock & Barclay; Bond Schoeneck & King; Nixon Peabody LLP; Carter, Conboy, Case, Blackmore, Maloney & Laird; Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, LLP; Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP and Pitney Bowes, Inc.
A complete job posting, including application information, is available under the “Job Postings” tab on the CSM.
