Starting this fall, Albany Law School will partner with 16 attorneys from Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, to launch the Diversity Attorney Mentor Program, in which Albany Law students will be matched with practicing attorneys to gain inside knowledge of specific legal fields, discuss career paths and seek out networking opportunities as the students begin the process of entering the job market in a law firm setting.

Led by Albany Law School Director of Diversity Affairs Pershia Wilkins and Hiscock & Barclay Partner Lawrence Zimmerman, who is also the diversity partner at his firm’s Albany office, this Diversity Mentor Program will pair students with attorneys for three-month periods during the fall and spring semesters, as well as during the summer.

“We are very excited about this new program and this opportunity to interact with students from Albany Law School,” said Zimmerman. “We see this as a long term project that both our attorneys and the students will come to thoroughly enjoy and benefit from.”

Sixteen attorneys, including nine Albany Law School alumni are expected to participate in the program’s  second term, which will kick off with an orientation and reception at Hiscock & Barclay’s Albany offices in mid January.

An application for the Spring 2012 term, accompanied by a resume should be submitted to the Diversity Affairs Office, by December 20, 2011.
