On Tuesday, January 20, 2009, President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn in on the west front terrace of the U. S. Capitol. Click HERE to view events and activities.
The theme of Obama’s inauguration will be “A New Birth of Freedom,” according to Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the chairwoman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. It will commemorate the 200th anniversity of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. Lincoln, when delivering the Gettysburg Address in Pennsylvania in 1863, said, “we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom.”
