~Apply on CSM ~
Application date was extended to:  January 15, 2015.

$18/hour ($1,800 Spring 2015 semester stipend)  – 10 to 12 interns will be placed with large and mid-sized Albany area law firms!

The Albany County Bar Association created this semester-long Diversity Internship program during the Fall of 2000 to support students from under-represented groups within the legal profession (e.g., African-American, Asian or Pacific Islander, Puerto Rican, Mexican, other Hispanic, and American Indian are encouraged to apply). The goal of the program is to increase the representation of students of color in law firms in the Capital District, and to provide students with a private sector experience. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required to be considered. All applicants must be eligible to legally work in the United States, and international students must be CPT qualified (See the Registrar’s office to learn if you are CPT eligible) .

Note: selected interns have had the opportunity to work with the following Albany area law firms:  Bond Schoeneck & King; Nixon Peabody LLP;  Carter, Conboy, Case, Blackmore, Maloney & Laird; Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, LLP; Hiscock & Barclay, LLP; Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP and Pitney Bowes, Inc.

After careful review of all applications by the Program Committee, selected applicants will then be assigned with an area law firm based upon the strength of their application.

The internship provides a meaningful work experience, appropriately supervised by a partner or senior attorney, with assignments equivalent to a junior associate’s actual work situation. There is a commitment of 10-weeks (100 hours; minimum of ten hours per week) with an assigned employer.  All interns MUST plan to attend all related program reception(s) and complete a program evaluation form upon the completion of the internship. (The time commitment involved in attending receptions is not considered part of the Intern’s 100 hours of work time.) Compensation: $1,800 stipend.

A complete job posting, including application information, is available under the “Job Postings” tab on the Law School’s CSM.
