Pipeline effort: John Jay College of Criminal Justice students visit Albany Law

On Wednesday, April 21st, Albany Law School welcomed 18 students (sophomores and juniors), the Director of the Pre Law Institute, Vielka Holness, JD, MPA and Academic Advisor, Ms. Louise Freymann from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) to our campus.  Their day began at 11am with Pershia Wilkins, Director of our Diversity Office greeting them and along with third-year law student, Kristen Lagonegro conducted tours of our campus.  Some of the highlights of their day included: a mock criminal law class taught by Professor Donna Young, a presentation by Gail Bensen, Director of Admissions, a law student panel discussion with eight of our students (from the 1L, 2L & 3L classes), a presentation (entitled: “Beyond the First Year”) by the Director (Professor Joseph Connors) and Administrative Director (Ms. Susan Terwilliger) of our Law Clinic & Justice Center, followed by a discussion on professional networking with the Director of Diversity.   It was a rewarding day for students and their faculty advisors, many of whom were visiting the Capital District for the first time.

Another successful event: Charting New Pathways to the Bench

On Wednesday, March 31th Albany Law School held its 11th annual Diversity topic roundtable discussion.  During the event, the issue of:  “Why diversity in the judiciary and legal profession matters” was discussed,  and ended with a lively discussion on charting new pathways to the Bench.   

Over 90 were in attendance, comprising of: alumni, faculty, staff, students, and local practitioners attended the Networking Reception and Program.  The Networking Reception was sponsored by five Bar Associations and Albany Law School’s Diversity Office.   Among the attendees were three special guests: NYS Appellate Division, Third Department, Presiding Justice Anthony V. Cardona; Associate Justice Leslie E. Stein, Third Department; and Associate Justice Bernard J. Malone, Jr., Third Department.

The program began at 6pm in the East Wing Classroom with welcoming remarks and comments by our Dean & President Thomas Guernsey.  Dean Guernsey discussed how Albany Law continue to do its part in creating new pathways to the judiciary and highlighting our many  accomplishments.  Photo Gallery:
